Every Body Matters: Formulations that Celebrate Diversity and Inclusivity

Inclusivity in personal care has taken many different forms – products suited to everyone, to specific markets, and customisable products for the individual. This presentation and featured formulations explore the different interpretations of inclusivity, and reveal the formulatory opportunities that this trend can offer. We will be demonstrating how to best utilise ingredients to create products for a diverse market and demanding modern consumers.

Slimagine : A new approach to fat control

Slimming is an universal concern for most people. In order to have a healthy, fit and trim body, people exercise and diet. Indeed, fat comes from the nutrients contained in food that will be stored as triglycerides in adipocytes (the fat storing cells).
In order to help people on a diet to regulate their fat intake, Exsymol developed Slimagine (INCI name: PALMARIA PALMATA EXTRACT). This active is capable of fully controlling fat balance by controlling all the mechanisms involved in fat storage: it increases lipolysis (the fat burning process), it decreases lipogenesis (fat storing), while also decreasing adipogenesis (the creation of new adipose tissue) by preventing the unfolded protein response (UPR) mechanism. Because of this global control over fat storage, Slimagine is not only capable of stimulating fat excretion, but it is also able to prevent the yoyo effect.

Formulation strategies in times of “liquid plastic” discussions and requests for “free-from”.

Todays and future consumer requirements strongly include sustainable handling of raw materials. This also forces the development of cosmetic formulations that are free from "water pollutants" like plastics in solid and liquid form. While solid plastics have already been removed from most cosmetics, the so called liquid plastics (synthetic polymers like acrylates) are becoming more in focus. Still ongoing is the "free-from" positioning mainly related to SLES, parabens and silicones. These can challenge formulators, especially in combination, to find appropriate solutions. Get ideas from the RAHN Application Lab, which offers new guide formulations and concept strategies on this topic.

Enhanced performance and skin feel in skin care formulations with a novel water- and wear-resistant, anti-pollution, film former

Current film-formers are typically hydrophobically-modified polymers and contribute to the heavy feel of formulations.  This new polymer is designed to disperse in water and form a mesh over the skin while enhancing the sensory profile of the finished formulation.  The mesh provides great wear resistance for make-up formulations and was found to protect the skin from exposure to certain common airborne environmental pollutants.  We used 2D and 3D field emission electron microscopy to image the mesh that the polymer formed over the skin.  Consumer data generated on formulations containing the polymer confirmed the wear resistance benefits imparted by incorporating this polymer into make-up formulations.  In addition, this technology offers great benefits towards pollution protection when incorporated in skin care formulations.

Clean, Pure & Simple

In recent years, the trend for “Green Beauty” has become super mainstream with more and more producers and consumers looking for beauty and personal care products that are ECO friendly and sustainable. This is what inspired us to look beyond our customers desires and create formulations that not only protect your skin but also protect the environment. We based our formulated solutions on the concept of Clean, Pure & Simple.
Our Chantilly Cream is a shower based whipped cream presented in an aerosol format that allows you to measure the exact amount of product you need to wash and moisturise your skin while reducing waste CLEAN
Most of the ingredients involved in our formulations are nature based with the Chantilly Cream in particular only containing certified ECOCERT constituents PURE
We believe that the Cosmetics market is looking for less ingredients in formulations therefore we developed a formula that contains less than 10 naturally based ingredients SIMPLE
During the Inspire Presentation Brenntag will show you as a leading international distributor of a comprehensive range of cosmetics ingredients, how we manage to recognise market trends at an early stage and how the Brenntag formulation team responds to those trends. Brenntag will emphasise on the Concept Clean, Pure & Simple and illustrate how we managed to meet our customer requirements.

“Natural colorants” – What is the definition?

Recent cosmetic trends have pushed the industry in the direction of what has been loosely termed as “natural products”.  While this term sounds good from a marketing perspective, the definition is not clear and means different things to different individuals and organizations.  During the course of this presentation, we’ll explore the raw materials that makeup colorants and what customers are actually seeking when the use this loaded terminology.

Turning the World Green: How Biobased Ingredients Boost Sustainability

Traditional petro-based ethoxylates are known for their high-performance benefits but are derived from non-renewable sources, making them undesirable for formulators seeking to create more sustainable, bio-based formulations. Now, new bio-based ethoxylates offer the same high-performance benefits while supporting sustainability efforts due to their renewable bio-mass feedstocks.  This presentation will demonstrate how using these sustainable materials can enable formulators to meet rising demand for bio-based formulations without sacrificing performance, with formulation examples detailing the impact of bio-based ingredients.
