Mr. Brunning gained his joint Honours degree in Biochemistry and Chemistry from the University of Keele in 1990, and then went onto work in the health and beauty industry for 26 years working in both FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) manufacturing and retail. Mr. Brunning has broad experience working within manufacturing, retail IT, product development, within the retail environment and has led the development of business initiatives including, cosmetic product regulatory compliance, IT project delivery, and product stewardship.
Prior to joining Exponent, Mr. Brunning had worked within the Global Brands Division for an international health and beauty manufacturer and retailer based in the UK and with activities in the USA, South America and the Far East. His latter post was being Head of Quality & Regulatory Policy Development. In this role he was accountable for developing and implementing policies to drive regulatory compliance for cosmetics, biocides, hard goods and pharmaceutical products for sale in international markets and for re-invigorating the retailer’s approach to Quality Management.
Mr. Brunning has influenced development of operational compliance with the European Cosmetic Regulation as a former member of the European Commission Cosmetic Product Notification Portal Development team. He has worked with trade associations on compliance in his former role as a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee, Nanomaterials Working Group, the Salon Hair Products working group and the International Committee for the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association, UK. Mr. Brunning was also a member of the Nanomaterials, Microplastics and Natural and Organic Task Forces for the European trade association Cosmetics Europe. He was also a member of the British Retail Consortium Chemicals Working Group which developed the UK retail position on the development of new regulations in particular the Biocides Regulation and the Explosive Precursors Regulation.
An integral part of Mr. Brunning’s role at Exponent is to offer Responsible Person service, Cosmetic Product Safety Reports (CPSRs), and Product Information File (PIFs) management, in compliance with EU Cosmetic Regulations 1223/2009, as well as providing advice on other aspects of personal care claims, supply chain, manufacture, sustainability, and international compliance.
