Enhanced performance and skin feel in skin care formulations with a novel water- and wear-resistant, anti-pollution, film former

Current film-formers are typically hydrophobically-modified polymers and contribute to the heavy feel of formulations. This new polymer is designed to disperse in water and form a mesh over the skin while enhancing the sensory profile of the finished formulation. The mesh provides great wear resistance for make-up formulations and was found to protect the skin from exposure to certain common airborne environmental pollutants. We used 2D and 3D field emission electron microscopy to image the mesh that the polymer formed over the skin. Consumer data generated on formulations containing the polymer confirmed the wear resistance benefits imparted by incorporating this polymer into make-up formulations. In addition, this technology offers great benefits towards pollution protection when incorporated in skin care formulations.
