Blue Sky Botanics celebrates 10 Year Anniversary

Blue Sky Botanics, specialist UK manufacturer of authentic, natural botanical extracts and hydrolats for the Personal Care, Beverage and Food industry is based on a 200-acre award winning Organic farm in the heart of Herefordshire, England.

This autumn, Blue Sky celebrates 10 years of supplying premium botanical extracts to customers ranging from ‘fledgling’ businesses to major global brands.

Blue Sky has grown from strength to strength across all aspects of the business, gaining a worldwide reputation for an ability to source botanicals and develop authentic extracts, meeting the most challenging customer brief. In accordance with membership of the forward thinking Union for Ethical Biotrade, provenance, ethical sourcing and rigorous attention to quality and traceability are the trademarks of a Blue Sky Extract.

10 years has seen significant organic change to the business, from its inception in 2005 with 3 staff, to a current workforce of 18 employees. Now in 2015 the business turnover has increased by a factor of 12 and is growing at a steady 30% per year. Investment in process equipment, production space and warehousing has been continuous with a further £250,000 being invested this year.

With investment in efficient manufacturing facilities for the production of premium quality hydrolats and a strong pipeline plan to develop innovative, green chemistry, active extracts, Blue Sky is focused on maintaining strong growth into the future. As a key element of this vision, Blue Sky is working in collaboration with industry and academia and has recently won a research grant from the High Value Chemicals from Plants Network.

James Lambe, who has been involved in herb growing and processing for over 30 years leads the Blue Sky team, says:

When we started growing a small area of herbs for the food industry nearly forty years ago I didn’t imagine that this would develop into such a successful business. Using ethically sourced botanicals, Blue Sky’s range of products is satisfying the demand for natural and authentic extracts in both the food and cosmetic industries. Blue Sky will continue to make the case for natural products for many years to come!

The team recently took time to celebrate, by enjoying a meal at a local restaurant, and sampling a range of innovative cocktails developed by our creative technologist using Blue Sky flavour extracts!
